What is Trust? Trust is defined as a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. In the movie “Finding Forrester” a young african american boy in the inner city does just as the title suggest he finds Forrester. Jamaal and his friends play basketball beneath the building housing the man only known as “the window” and is a person of controversy among the neighborhood. On a dare from one of his friends jamaal is tasked with breaking into “the windows” house and take something, Jamaal is scared off by “the window” and in his hurry he leaves his bag that contains all of his writing and journals. As Jamal and Wiliam Build their Relationship they push each to new boundaries that neither have explored before. A the two slowly learn to trust and accept one another in a friendship they are able to learn about the other and their experiences which allow them to grow and Mature as an individual. When Jamaal left his diaries William was able to get a closer look into his life and allowed him to see what kind of young mad jamaal was. Once Forrester saw this he saw that jamal was more than what he first assumed, but still does nt trust jamal wholly as is seen when William first Rebukes him. On the other side of that Jamaal seems to naturally trust William in the fact that he returned his thing and even took the time to read and give advice on his writings. Because of Williams comments he feels he can trust William to see his writing and express himself in ways that he may have never before been able to and this gives him a sense of comfort with William and allows his writing to flow freely. As They become more comfortable with one another Jamal is able to convince William to come out of his home. Alluding to the definition of trust as a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something it is seen that William can see and Trust Jamal's strength from his personal experience and rising above what was around him to become something more and stronger. A major setting where major events occur is William's apartment where Jamal and Forrester First meet and the Movie ends. Consequently This is were Jamal and Forrester spend almost all of their time together and they form their “bond” in writing. This is portrayed as a “place out of time” as shown by the interior being furnished in a pre World War two style. Another place of interest for the purpose of movie analysis is the “prep school that Jamal attends after he goes on a scholarship from the school. The school is portrayed the exact opposite of William's apartment It is Clean, Crisp, Modern, and Massive in size while Williams Modest Apartment is cluttered and aged. This new scenery is meant to contrast the idea of safety that Williams apartment represents to Jamal as he presented with this new task and pressure to succeed and prove that he belongs in this new place. Another major Difference in the Scenes is the people in them, in the apartment it is a solitary environment where only William and jamal go while the new prep school is full of people, and not all of them are friendly. Another reason the schools seems to be a place that jamal cannot trust is do to the many conflicts that arrive out of the school.
