In the movie “Tucker”, Preston Tucker is trying to change car design. He is faced with many challenges, including a resistance to change due to satisfaction with the current design, the new design was not built and may not work, and he had to put in place management to keep the process of change going. Tucker was able to turn his idea into a reality. In only 60 days he produced the original model of the vehicle. Tucker’s attitude towards his people demonstrated that he was a charismatic leader and also lead to the success of his vision. Tucker was a charismatic leader. Like many charismatic leaders, his leadership appeared in a time of crisis he had heard that the men fighting in the war were coming home and wanted to buy cars. This is when he thought of the “car of tomorrow” which he could easily sell to these returning soldiers. The main engineer of the car changed several details to improve the car while creating the original design and Preston told him, “If you ever do that again I’ll give you a raise.” This shows that while Tucker had his vision he allowed his followers to have a say and improve the overall vision. He also gave his men a lot of room to work on the vehicle allowing them to use their expertise without too much supervision. His followers felt they had a say and that their boss cared about their well-being. An example of Tucker empowering his followers is when he praised his manufacturing team publically orienting them towards the vision he has. He conveyed high expectations when he would not compromise on the safety of the car. The board wanted to throw out safety and a rear engine so the car could be produced at a faster rate. Tucker refused to compromise with the board and even found a way to keep the seat belts, rear engine, and windshields that are
