Tupac Shakur was born on June 16th, 1971 in East Harlem, New York City, New York. He was one of the most legendary hip-hop and rapper artists to ever live. His legacy will forever be remembered because of how influential he was to the music industry. Not only was Tupac a great artist, he was a record producer, actor, and poet. Although his life was taken away at a young age of 25, he was considered a rebel with a cause because he would speak out for the many injustices that African Americans faced. His death was very unfortunate, but we still see today how influential he has been to the music industry. Tupac’s family consisted of his mother, Alice Faye Williams, father, Billy Garland, and sister, Sekiya Shakur. His mother was the daughter of a North Carolina maid and high school dropout. She would later change her name to Afeni Shakur because she was involved with the Black Panther Party. In 1970, she was charged with the conspiring to set off a race war. Tupac’s original name when he was born was Lesane Parish Crooks, but that was soon changed too Tupac Amaru by his mother because it was after an 18th century Peruvian revolutionary. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and won the Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap Album in 1996. His album “Me Against the World” debuted at number one on the BillBoard 200 and became double platinum in the United States. Also, his album “All Eyez on Me”, which was released in 1996, and went multi-platinum. (Reeves 19) Overall, Tupac has sold more than 75 million albums and that shows how important he was not just to the music industry, but the lives of millions he touched through his
