Shakespeare is known to be “The Immortal Bard,” as many of 6his themes, topics, and concepts can be seen happening today. Shakespeare is known to be “The Immortal Bard,” as many of his themes, topics, and concepts can be seen in action today. One of the many topics he has tackled successfully across his numerous plays is the concept of decisiveness. It is the most important trait in a friendship because, without it, a friendship cannot sustain. In his comedy Twelfth Night, Shakespeare has shown a very good example of decisiveness but he has also shown the opposite. Shakespeare has shown two very contrasting examples of loyalty in the play, one being Cesario, or Viola, and the other being Sir Toby Belch. This essay will tackle the good aspects of decisiveness in the play Twelfth Night using the character Viola, and the bad by using Sir Toby. Viola, or Cesario, portrays a very good example of decisiveness. She is a very generous person, in both her words and also in money wherever she hears a compliment of someone whom she is caring about. Sir Toby pretends to be the "coordinator," while actually trying to destroy both Sir Andrew and Viola at the same time. He tries to scare Viola by lying to her about Sir Andrew(), while also scaring Andrew by doing the same to him(). He is manipulative and tries to scare them so much that they won't fight and that they both will get scared. He is very indecisive, as he takes advantage of both, but then realizes that he has put himself in a tough position. Viola, on the other hand, is so generous that she gives half of her money to Antonio, even though she doesn't even know him. She determines that he must be someone good, as he talks of Sebastian, which shows her tremendous decision
