The life expectancy of people with type 2 diabetes is hard to verify, because it is often miscalculated in routine mortality statistics (Ioacara, Guja, Ionescu-Tiroviste, Fica, Sabau, Radu & Tiu, 2011). Unless a diabetic complication is directly responsible for a death, it is often not declared on the deceased's death certificate, or stated as being the primary result of death (Ioacara et al., 2011). Many studies, like Barnett, Ogston, McMurdo, Morris, and Evans (2010) on the cardiovascular mortality among people with diagnosed type 2 diabetes, provided rough mortality rates signifying people with the disease are three times more likely to increase their mortality compared to others (Ioacara et al., 2011). One study made life expectancy tables using data from the Framingham Heart Study, and found that women and men, fifty …show more content…
Lifestyle modification as a treatment The possibility of type 2 diabetes can be heavily minimized by simply engaging in moderate intensity activities, like brisk walking (Jeon, Lokken, Hu & Van Dam, 2007). In Jeon et al. (2007) research, they used studies that analyzed physical activity from Embase and Medline as a foundation to their research. In the study they established 10 cohort studies, overall 301,221 participants, and tested them for various reasons, like the risk of diabetes in people who walked and engaged in activity versus others who were being sedentary, or people who walked regularly (generally over 2.5 hours of brisk walking a week) versus people who barely walked at all (Jeon et al., 2007). They found that the participants that performed regular physical activity, of moderate intensity, had a lower possibility of type 2 diabetes, or progressed diabetes, of 30% than the participants who were sedentary (Jeon et al., 2007). They also noticed an overall decrease in type 2 diabetes exposure for
