STAGE 1-Client Brief
1.1 Design Problem:
Today as fitness and healthier living is broadcasted everywhere, people have taken up fitness and many choosing the option to train at home. Training at home requires that person to have some equipment that the gym might offer them and this is usually a Dumbbell, kettle bell, barbell also known as a free weights. However people who own these often complain of the lack of space they have to store these weights properly and the fact the uses of the dumbbell are pretty much limited. Also many people find using them very difficult as they have lack of understanding or experience using them.
There are many providers and brands of Free weights that offer the same service and so brand to some consumers is not important but more down to the quality of the fitness equipment. Equipment can come in many shapes and sizes and often lead to a misperception of effectiveness if the consumer is a novice.
1.2 Design Brief:
The design is a fitness tool for mainly the home but can be used commercially that requires minimal space to store yet provide an effective workout. It will be based on durability and simplicity which will allow the user to master its multiple uses for a novice or expert. The objective of this fitness tool is to eliminate current methods of storing bulky fitness equipment but offer the user a chance to carry out multiple workouts with it that wold usually require them to acquire more equipment.
I intend to promote a better way of working out at home effectively saving consumer confusion as well as tackling the issues highlighted. The solution would be to have a fitness tool that allows its user to work out with balance and so by eliminating the conventional design for one fitness tool I will be able to harvest 3-4 uses that other fitness tools would have done. The target market for this design would be for ages 15+ but have a main direct aim at people who work-out already and those seeking to workout.
The design will also be competing on a design basis as manufacturers of Fitness equipment and tools tend to all follow the same conventional design. Currently existing products are all in their maturity or decline stages in their product life cycle
