The 1940’s were an unequal time all around the world. Signs of discrimination and racism were everywhere. In the US inequality and racism affected people’s day to day activities such as education, work, travelling and drinking. Most things were segregated. This meant that black African Americans could not sit with white people, drink from the same water fountain or attend the same school.
The Jim Crow laws were a set of laws laid down by the government to ensure black people remained ‘Second Class Citizens’. They separated blacks from whites. Jim Crow was the common term for these segregation laws and also the Black Codes.
