There are currently 1.2 million Ukrainians in Canada as of today and the number is steadily increasing. Canada has the worlds third largest Ukrainian population behind Russia and Ukraine. The Ukrainian diaspora did not just pop out of nowhere but immigrated here after escaping hardship in their main country and looking for better things. According to the Toronto Ukrainian Genealogy Group (TUGG) there are four Ukrainian immigrations to Canada the first on in 1891 and ended when the first world war began in 1914. The second immigration happened between the two world wars which were from 1922-1939. And the third immigration which began in 1946 -1946 and the fourth and last wave of immigrants is from 1991 and still continuing. The first immigrants …show more content…
many problems occurred between the first immigrants of Ukraine and the second wave of immigrants. The problem was that the first immigrants were becoming more accustomed to Canadian ways instead of holding onto their Ukrainian traditions and the second immigrants were extreme nationalist. These problems were going on for quite sometime and seemed like there was no answer to how to resolve their issues. The third immigration which was from 1946-1961 was the most productive and successful in Ukraine immigrations in Canada history. About 38 000 people came the least amount of immigrants but had something special in it. The third immigration came with political figures, scientist, engineers, teachers, doctors, and farmers. They came to Canada and were in tune with how the first settlers were handling things and that made the transition from Ukraine to Canada much smother for them. The teachers brought with them ideas to establish Ukrainian departments in universities and classes focusing on Ukraine. on the other hand, some people could not find work and were having a difficult time adjusting to life in a new
