Surviving forty-seven days at sea with little food or water to support three people on a tiny raft is not an easy task. Growing up, Louie Zamperini was not a very good kid. “At five, he started smoking, picking up cigarette butts while walking to kindergarten. He began drinking one night when he was eight…” (7). As he grew up, he became a better athlete and he started getting really good at track. He set many records before being taken off to war. Louie’s plane crashed into the ocean on May 27th, 1943.
