Two vicious men forced their way into house which Brenda and young daughter Erica Lafferty resided in, and murdered them in cold blood. The two men Dan and Ron Lafferty murdered their sister in law because their god ordered the “removal” of them. In “Under the Banner of Heaven” Jon Krakauer depicts the violent faith of Fundamental Ladder Day Saints and the gruesome murders that Don and Ron Lafferty committed. “Under the Banner of Heaven” was first published in July of 2003 and was on the New York Times best seller list. The author of the book, Jon Krakauer was born April 12, 1954 in Brookline Massachusetts but grew up in Corvallis, Oregon(“Jon”). He graduated from Hampshire College in 1976 and worked as a salmon fisherman and carpenter to support himself. Jon received an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters(“Jon”). He spent five months with combat troops in Afghanistan for research on his books. According to the Academy of Arts and Letters, “Krakauer combines the tenacity and courage of the finest tradition of investigative journalism with the stylish subtlety and profound insight of the born writer”(“Jon”). “Under the Banner of Heaven” shifts its focus back and fourth to the true accounts of the murdering Lafferty brothers and the Fundamentalist Ladder Day Saints (FLDS).
