All four sources I selected were current according to my ratings. The book, Understanding Sports Coaching: The Social, Cultural and Pedagogical Foundations of Coaching Practice was rated a 2 (acceptable) because it was first published in 2004, but was later updated in 2008. While the other sources, Foundations of Sports Coaching, “High School Athletes’ Relationships with Head Coaches and Teammates as Predictors of Their Expressions of Upward and Lateral Dissent” and “On Understanding the Role and Significance of a Key-Two Person Relationship in Sport and Executive Coaching” were each given a rating of 3 (excellent) because they were all published during or after 2010. Robinson, author of Foundations of Sports Coaching, was a professor of Applied Sciences making this source not as reliable for my topic as a professor of Sports Studies or identical would be. This source earned a 2 (acceptable) because it lacked relevant authority from an educational background, but succeeded by establishing real-life authority due to Robinson’s previous experience as a sports coach. The article, “High School Athletes Relationships with Head Coaches and Teammates as Predictors of Their Expressions of Upward and Lateral Dissent”, also received a 2 (acceptable) because the authors, Gregory A. Cranmer and Marjorie M. Buckner were both professors of Communication Studies. However, this article listed several references to other studies that were associated with lecturers of Exercise Science or Sports Studies. The other two sources were given a rating of 3 (excellent) because of the authors’ educational backgrounds in Sports Coaching and Sports Exercise while they also listed contact information and educational …show more content…
The purpose of both books, Understanding Sports Coaching and Foundations of Sports Coaching, was to provide coaches with with advice, guidance and support to better their athletes by listing different coaching methods, the ethics behind coaching and equipping the audience with tools to better understand athletes. The article, “High School Athletes’ Relationships with Head Coaches and Teammates as Predictors of Their Expressions of Upward and Lateral Dissent” presented facts related to the effects that coaches have on their player’s ability to communicate effectively. Similarly author Sophia Jowett’s article, “On Understanding the Role and Significance of a Key Two-Person Relationship in Sport and Executive Coaching” purpose is to inform coaches of the role they play within their athletes’ life. These four sources contributed to my research significantly and had purposes that related to my topic
