“Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.” The man who said this was a man who led our beautiful country, Former President John F. Kennedy. The American government and its citizens are responsible for the decisions that are made in our favor, but why do we as Americans neglect our responsibilities to the United States? The freedoms given to us are deserved only when we contribute through civic responsibilities, patriotism, and respecting the rights of citizens. To begin, the paramount responsibility confronting Americans is their civic obligations. The government has been constructed to represent the citizens and for this arrangement to be beneficial the citizens must send their arguments and opinions in order to be represented accurately. The right granted by the Constitution is, “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” This right stands and must be valued to bestow upon fellow citizens the same and equal rights. A citizen should not infringe on another citizen’s rights. Unification of America begins as we come together as American citizens with no labels separating us. Respect encompasses not letting your personal beliefs override the rights of another. During the civil rights movement African Americans were deprived of their rights due to their skin color. The only thing separating them from other Americans was their skin color. This discrimination resulted in the banning of African Americans in certain locations and business as well as the abuse they faced for a fact that they cannot change. Every American deserves these rights as a citizen and no government or person has the ability to take those rights
