It is extremely important to build and develop a good relationship with every child’s parent or carer. Parents are the most important people in children’s lives. They have the most knowledge about their child and understand them more than anybody else. Children will benefit a lot from good relationships around them and so will parents and other professionals working in the setting. By working together parents and practitioners can enhance children’s learning and development. It is extremely important to keep in regular contact with parents and carers and keep them informed about how their child is developing and what activities the parents could encourage in the home-setting. The ‘Parent’s Charter’ was issued in 1991 and was updated in 1994 to strengthen the rights that all parents have about their child. Parents have the rights to make choices and to be consulted with any concerns about their child’s education and development.

It is also important to keep professional relationships with other practitioners working in the same setting as you.
