Analyzing Music in Various Films from “Music in Film”
After watching the various movies in the Music in Film, I will be discussing the overall music and selected scenes in four films: Once, On the Waterfront, Fahrenheit 451, and Cinema Paradiso. This analysis will look at the influence the music had in these films as well as in the selected scenes.
In the movie, Once, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie as well as the music. I especially loved the duets between the two composers. One scene that captivated the music of the movie was when the two composers were sitting by the piano, singing “Falling Slowly”. Particularly, that scene embodied the chemistry of the characters and showed the vulnerability of the characters as well. The music seemed to be essential in expressing the characters’ feelings and experiences. Furthermore, the music highlighted the power that lyrical music can present a raw range of experiences that are express in a way that cannot really be expressed in any other way. The music in this film was presented in a way that captivated audiences and brought attention to the experiences

I thought the music added to the intensity of this scene and showed the real heartbreak that was going through the two of them. Also, the lack of music in the beginning of the scene helped add to the focus on the characters’ words and their reactions to one another. But once the gun was put away, the music intensified, giving the pressure of that scene to the audience while the actors were giving great performances as well. I thought this movie used the music in key moments in the movie and it was carefully chosen for scenes without the music. The music brought attention to the emotions and greatly captured the moods of the different scenes and helped shape this move into the masterpiece it
