The purpose of this assignment is to reflect and critically analyse an incident from a social care setting whilst reflecting upon professional judgements and decision making within legal and policy framework. The critical incident will highlight a contribution to assessments and management of risk with the appropriate responses to safeguarding. Being able to analyse the incident, will allow me to draw upon a conclusion relating to the learning outcomes.
Introduction
Critical incidents are defined as not being dramatic events but usually an incident that has significance to you and often makes you stop and think or that raises questions for you. Schwester (2012) suggests an incident is only critical when it attracts attention and changes the way we tend to think or act in low profile cases and it tends to live on in the collective consciousness.
The incident that will be critically discussed will relate to section 47: Child protection of the Children Act (1989). The incident unfolds as follows. A referral was made to the outreach service already at a level 4b of the Lancashire Continuum of Need.
