I have had a variety of experiences working in different childcare setting and I have seen many different methods of planning. I have worked in a setting where the planning has been too solid and no room for any changes, but I have also worked in a setting where the planning is very flexible and able to have changes. Even though some of the setting I haven worked in has followed the Foundation Phase framework each setting has different ways if carry out planning. Some settings focus more on structured lessons but other settings prefer more time allowing children to play and learn by themselves.

This can make it difficult for the children to develop a positive bond with the main or key practitioner and their peers within the setting as they are not being influenced to communicate with others. The classroom that also follow the Montessori approach are very basic but there is reason for this as Montessori felt that a messy or cluttered classroom/environment that distract the children from their learning. Theories such as Janet Moyle's may disagree with the Montessori approach as she believed that “free play without adults input needed to be followed by play directed by an adult”( Tassoni et al, 2007. P286). She believed that children must have a balance between child-initiated and structured activities in order to fully reach their potential.
