United States Aircraft Carriers: The History and Design
For nearly 100 years, the aircraft carrier has been changing and improving to match the technologically superior United States Navy. They provide the military with support that is unrivaled, and sufficiently easier battles both on and off the seas. From the first official carrier, the USS Langley, to the most modern class of carriers today, they have upheld their standards and proven to be a powerful, strong force. It has become an essential part of the U.S military’s resources. Today’s carriers travel in fleets and have around 4,500 personnel that are dedicated to keeping peace and maintaining the giant “cities on water” (Underwood, 2015, p. 2).
