During the 1800’s the labor movement began to take place in order to protect the common interest of workers. Employers were abusing their wealth and power by disregarding the moral needs of their employee’s well being. The employers overworked, underpaid, and maintain hazardous working conditions in order to maximize their profits. Therefore, the common workers decided to collaborate by working together and establishing unions. The unity that the labor unions provided empowered employees to collectively bargain with their employers, while reducing the risk of being unemployed. District 4 of the USW represents New Jersey residents and its employees that belong to this particular union. John Sinn is our dictator and leader of District 4, which is a subcategory of the national United Steelworkers. This District’s primary focus is to facilitate the North Eastern region of the United State. This union functions on the checks and balance system. Most people believe this system prevents political corruption and supports democratically philosophies. I could not locate the appropriate quantity of members in District 4, but I believe this district holds a vast majority of the USW membership, because the Northern Eastern region used to be a highly concentrated capacity in the mining and steel manufacturing …show more content…
In the United States they appointed 13 offices to 13 distinctive districts in order to maintain stability and order. After they divided their power into 13 districts they created lesser sub-divisions to accommodate local communities. Therefore, this type of checks and balances also benefits the employees as well, because this gives the union the ability to service the employees more effectively and productively. The way they structured their union benefits the employees because this gives the employees the ability to quickly get in contact with a local sub-division offices. Lastly, this system is very well crafted because it avoids corruption amongst the union because it precludes the center government from having the final decision. Leo W.
