University Designating Course Reflection

When analyzing the effects of technology in the twenty-first-century, it is vital to examine such contribution by looking at both the negative and positive impact that technology has on society in order to gain a broader understanding. The University Designated course provided such insight that enabled me to think critically about the effects of technology and its broader impact.
During the first week of class, i gained a broader definition of the word technology. I learned that technology relates to skill, production, use of resources, and knowledge that help revolutionized our world. For instance, when professor Gaunce mentioned something that I disagree with I take it upon myself to state my position and why I have an opposing viewpoint. This class also gave me the opportunity to practice my oral skills which helped strengthen my ability to speak in front of an audience. What I found perplexing was the fact that some of my peers who had opinions that were contrary to professor Gaunce did not express them in class, but did so within the group outside of class. When it comes to the work I submitted, I strive to present the best work that I can. For instance, one of the strongest work I have submitted was the discussion on the introduction of testing students in grade school for mental illness. I dig deeper to find the broader impact and uncover the reasons why politicians are motivated to introduce such policies. I discussed the aftermath of what happened when a student is diagnosed. The goal is to push drugs in schools and politicians are rewarded with political donations, while parents get thrown a bone through disability checks once their children are diagnosed with a mental illness. My least favorite work that I submitted was the use of cell phones and the reason being is because I did not feel challenged enough with the topic presented.
