Learning teams are essentially groups made up of various class members, as assigned by the class facilitator. The learning teams are labeled alphabetically, and can contain any number of students, depending on the facilitator’s preferences. Near the beginning of the academic quarter, the instructor will assign class members to a respective learning team. Students are notified through their personal forums which team they are assigned to, and at this point the students can immediately access their own team’s forum and begin to communicate with their team mates.

In the learning teams environment, team members can communicate with each other in real-time via posts to their team’s forum. Students’ messages are uploaded into the team forum as soon as the student saves them, and students can also include attachments with their messages. The learning team forum can be accessed directly from the classroom home screen. Once inside the learning team forum, the student has a variety of options for creating new posts, responding to messages, and other features that will be explained below.

To access the Learning Teams section, first locate and click the Discussion link from the classroom home screen as described in Figure 1-3 (Page 5). Then, find the Learning Teams section on the left-hand column of the Discussion home screen in the Forums table, as shown on the next page in Figure
