The topic I chose to study more about was the discovery of Uranus by William Herschel in 1781. The article I found with some detail of this discovery is called, “Discoverers of the Universe: William and Caroline Herschel,” by Robert W. Smith. William Herschel was a music teacher as well as an astronomer at the time of the discovery. He had built many homemade telescopes and was looking through one of them on the night of March 13, 1781, when he discovered the planet Uranus. At first he thought it was a comet or “nebulous star,” but was able to conclude it was a planet.
