The BoHo Theater is known for their wit that challenges convention through innovative storytelling, one of their great works I was privileged to witness was the musical comedy titled Urine Town. Imagine a world where people must pay to execute one of the basic free-privileged function of a human being. A city where times are so weirdly terrible that huge business corporation make and control the law, making it impossible for the 99% to prevail. This play was brought to life by many bring minds. Book and Lyrics by Greg Kotis, music by Mark Hollmann, as directed by Stephen Schellhardt, choregraphed by Aubrey Adams.
Urine town consist on two acts, the first act begins with a friendly welcome from the narrator, who also plays Officer Lock stock. He and to my opinion the smart, witty and adorable Sally gave us a quick backstory. As the result of a terrible water shortage, private toilets became unthinkable. It consists of several scores from jazz to juke box. The songs were originally written for the show, each song was extended words in the play. Songs like “Urine town” performed by the entire cast was a to usher the in the audience, giving a quick back story into the play. My favourite song in the play “run freedom fun” performed by Bobby Strong and The Poor was a kind of a prep rally, one could call it a bust of encouragement to summon up the courage to fight for their privilege to pee for free. Songs like “We’re not sorry”, “I see a river” and “Urine town” could be the anthems in the play. It involved the entire cast and lead it on several actions. The orchestra was amazing, it made me warm and excited to see the transiting the orchestra made as the play
