Archetypal Analysis in Guardians of the Galaxy Every film follows a strong set of guidelines put in place by years of storytelling, all characters show similarities to each other, these characters fall into an archetype. In the film Guardians of the Galaxy directed by James Gunn, the main protagonist, Peter Quill (or “Starlord”) falls into the Hero archetype. This film uses the Hero’s quest archetype as a base for the plot. The patterns of archetypes are fluent throughout all movies, and Guardians of the Galaxy is no different, Gunn’s use of archetypes makes films recognizable and enjoyable, while further developing previous ones to create a magnificent adaptations to a beloved comic. In the end of the movie, there is a large scale battle that ends with Quill's ship crashing and the guardians coming face to face with Ronan. During a scuffle, the infinity stone is shown flying through the air and both Ronan and Quill are seen reaching out for it. Quill grabs the stone and almost dies, yet after the guardians all grab onto Quill and share the suffering, can they overcome its power and use it to destroy Ronan.
Another reoccurring theme in Guardians of the Galaxy is that of revenge. Drax desires revenge for the death of his wife and child, murdered by Ronan. While Ronan wants to wipe out an entire race based on the fact that his ancestors were murdered. The theme of revenge is used throughout many different films, with Guardians of the Galaxy not being any exception, and this is shown throughout the movie and Drax finally completing his vendetta by successfully destroying
