Peter Singer, the author of Animal liberation brings the reader to a utilitarian argument which basically weighs amounts of pains and pleasures when comparing humans and animals. In other words, he argues that it is the ability to feel pain that makes a being morally worthy. Although it would be easy to state that this essay is merely utilitarian in nature, as a reader could see it as merely an extensive statement that argues for vegetarianism in a utilitarian way, it would seem that Singer is more interested in the ethical reasons on why it is inherently wrong to view animals as non-replaceable with humans, when he clearly argues that they are when he introduces the reader to the term “speciesism”.
