Equality in America is emphasized from family to social relationships which embrace the difference of America and makes American life becomes harmonious. As a result, the value of equality is prevalent in both primary and secondary social relationships. For instance, in primary social relationship, children are often treated as adults, they are in equal status as parents in family. In secondary relationships, most co-workers and races are also should treated as equals. Chua mentions Western parents consider their children will not owe their parents anything, they are in same statue as parents,“ ‘It’s parents who foist life on their kids,so it’s the parents’ responsibility to provide for them. But Western parents not only give children freedom to make their own choice but also consider children are independent and their duty will be to their kids. This fully reflects that in American family, parents and children are in equal statue.This equality is not only make friendly relationship between parents and children, but also cultivate a child's individuality; making them become self-reliance and help them better adapt social changes in the future. Galdwell gives examples on strong-tie connection that helps to make social change which give black people rights, and social change earns equality for different races. Gladwell describes a fact during the civil right movement: “All volunteers were required to provide a list of personal contacts…and participants were far more likely than dropouts to have close friends who were also going to Mississippi”(133). Those volunteers who stay at the front lines of the movement and who were supported by their interrelationship among them and their friend that have the same goal and eventually result in the success of civil rights movement, which is a great social change that earns equality for different race and
