The Vanity of Sacrifices
Would you die for a useless cause?
Oftentimes, when people are ungrateful, sacrifices are made in vain. Our parents make huge sacrifices for our well being, past heroes like Terry Fox make sacrifices for the benefit of future generations, and soldiers make sacrifices for their country’s peace and prosperity. These examples all show us that we should be grateful for sacrifices made for us, so they are not made in vain. Furthermore, we should be willing to make sacrifices ourselves.

Parents make huge sacrifices in time, effort and money for their children, but oftentimes it is all in vain. Especially in our early years, our parents are constantly spending time to take care of us, however we waste our parent’s time as soon as we grow a little older. Being a parent is a significant amount of responsibility, and takes effort and willpower, but many children take it for granted that their parents are trying so hard to make them happy. Sometimes, kids don’t follow in their parent’s footsteps to try hard at school and work. Finally, parents sacrifice their money to not only buy basic food, clothing and drink, but also excessive toys. In response, too many kids are spoiled, and only know to demand more and more from their parents. We should instead be grateful and appreciative for the sacrifices

Terry Fox is an example of such a hero. He sacrificed his whole life for raising money for cancer research. Even when his cancer worsened, he continued running, caring more for future cancer patients than his own condition. His sacrifice was made in vain if there are no scientists using the money for cancer research, or if we gave up finding a cure. In the future, a cure could be discovered because, at least partly, of the money Terry Fox raised and the life he sacrificed. We should make use of past sacrifices and honour such heroes so they don’t go to
