The Venous eczema disease affects the skin of the lower legs. This disease has two other words that can be used for Venous eczema which can be either Gravitational eczema and Varicose eczema. About 37-44% of people are diagnosed with venous eczema when they have leg ulcers. There are cases where ulcers may never exist. People that have this disease don’t necessarily have to have ulceration to have venous eczema. Venous eczema is more effective when a person’s age rises and studies show that 20% of people at the age of 70 or even older are at risk of being affected. It is really difficult to diagnose venous eczema because of the different aspect of the changes in the skin. They think that the venous eczema is a part of the linear process.The pitting oedema is present in this disease because it increases when the day moves forward and that is caused by dependent/gravitational oedema. Pigmentation happens to change during the venous eczema disease process. This appears to stain which means it is caused by high pressure in this system. This causes blood to leak and it will eventually stain and this is harmless. Another disease is called Chronic lipodermatosclerosis, this may appear and develop gradually. This has many signs, but it can be like pain, hardening of the skin, leg ulcers, etc. They say that two thirds of people that have venous eczema disease are obese and controlled weight loss could help reduce it. A big thing is that people shouldn’t stand for a long time because this could increase this and make the swelling even worse. They should also elevate it when they are seated. The other big thing is people should avoid using shower gels because this could exfoliate some of the skin
