situational irony is when a incongruity appears between expectations of something to happen and what actually happens, an example of this is during the harry potter series everyone is informed that harry must kill lord Voldemort, but in reality he must kill Harry. Verbal irony is when words that are meant to tell the truth don't or are contrary to the truth, an example could be a mom looking at her sons messy room and saying that he could win an award for cleanliness.
