An alternate universe where human memory is worse than it is today would have drastic effects on the way schooling and learning is achieved. In our world, much of our learning is based off of fundamental knowledge, in other words, memories of a basic concept, then applying it to more complex situation. If humans are no longer able to remember them well, the entire education would need to be changed from memorizing to logical reasoning. Memorizing would become terribly inefficient as it takes too much time. Therefore, assessments such as exams would be conducted open-book, allowing the writer to access relevant knowledge that can be used to solve a particular question.
