Georgia CAPSTONE Researched Career Essay I chose to write my paper over the vet technician profession. There are many reasons that I want to be a vet tech, one of them being that I love animals. I have always been able to connect with animals, and have always had a soft spot for them. It is hard for me to think that animals are hurting and vulnerable, and that I cannot help them. That is one major reason why I have always wanted to work them, no matter the profession. I have never been a people person necessarily, so with me being a vet tech, I do not have to work with people, I am directly working with the animals and letting the veterinarians deal with the owners. I also do not want to spend my young years all in college, and with a vet tech, I only need to be in there for two years, instead of the usual eight being a veterinarian. Being in the animal business is a huge responsibility in general, but especially for the technicians, being that they diagnose the animals, and prep them for surgery. I would have to go to college for another six years, and that is something I really don’t want to do. I understand that a big disadvantage of only being a technician is that you make 60,000 less than a veterinarian does, but I have always heard that if you choose a career for the money, you will hate it. An advantage of being a technician is that I can be making money two years out of high school that I could potentially live off of as an adult. I can reduce the time spent in college by starting my vet technician courses while I am still a junior in high school. That really isn’t something that people can do for a PhD.
