The veteran’s center will employ real-world applications, activities, exercises, and simulations as its primary learning strategies. When a new student-veteran first arrives at the center, they will be asked to complete an individual action plan. This action plan will be revisited and used by both the veteran and the facilitators of program throughout the veteran’s academic career as needed. Within the action plan, the veteran student identifies strategies he or she will use to accomplish the required activities. The action plan also contains a section for personal barriers the veteran student thinks may affect his or her learning, along with developing strategies to remove the barriers. During the biweekly meeting, a review of benchmark measures, such as student’s grades, and also student feedback will be evaluated and used to make any changes or improvements necessary. Veteran students will receive feedback throughout the program, and will be informed if further application of an activity is needed. Veteran students will have the opportunity to make appointments as needed to discuss any difficulties or concerns they may be experiencing. Veterans using the center will be encouraged to bring any learning aids necessary for success. For example, the center welcomes trained assistance dogs. To further assist the veteran students in the transfer of learning process, the center will also encourage each veteran to participate in a peer-mentor program sponsored by the center. Follow-up activities of the program will be mentoring programs, support groups, and involve application of knowledge transfer strategies and the challenges of change. Veteran learners will also be given a list of additional resources for veteran internships available, along with the time and location of employment seminars. These seminars are frequently attended by companies looking to recruit veterans and can be a networking resource for locating employment. During the exit from the program, veterans will be assigned a counselor who they can utilize as a resource to aid them in their transfer of learning to their lives. Center counselors will contact learners monthly to discuss learning transfer issues until the learner indicates the learning has successfully transferred to their lives in its application, identified through a survey tool and individual
