Vida’s journey throughout the book is an interesting one.
She is usually the tough one or the happy one that everyone got along with. “ Vida hadn’t been a bit scary then, but a laughing kind of girl whom everybody liked.”( Clarke, 2001, p.3) Whenever jess would get scared, Vida would always comfort her. “Once jess used to tell her sister every little thing that bothered her, especially when she felt scared and Vida would always explain away her fears….” (Clarke, 2001, p.34)
Jess could always count on Vida to make her happy and to make new light or hope. But notice in the quote she uses the word “once”, well this is the next part of Vida's journey, the “sup stage”.
