I watched these videos present some very important points. The athlete’s health should always come first. I think there should be harder penalties for players who spear. This goes against every safety measurement that the athletic trainers and coaches work for. Penalties for using faulty equipment and being aware of it, should be met with the most severe punishment. Parents and families are trusting their children /athletes to be able to play safely. Taking that from them by making the sport unsafe in order to win defeats the whole purpose of sportsmanship.
In my opinion two concussions are one too many. After the second one whatever has or is causing the concussions needs to stop immediately. Sometimes the first once can be just coincidental so I don’t expect everyone to quit after one concussion. However there not everyone who plays receives a concussion. Therefore, we can speculate that some player’s bodies are just not meant for collision sports. It doesn’t have to be the end of the world, there are many other sports to choose from. The real judgement is the child’s maturity. Other than that there is no sure way to keep kids from hurting themselves. Yes, children are more susceptible to TBI injuries than most adults. But, like I said before not all children suffer concussions. There should there be more regulation when it comes to education and testing. The only regulation that needs to be added is to require a safety class be taken no matter the age on collision sports and health. Everyone needs to be educated on collision sports, concussions, and traumatic brain injuries. A coach can learn these test, if they do not have an athletic trainer available. Even if it’s a small hit on the head a short test can help you determine if a medical exam should be
