Video Game 'Aggression' Studies Are Nonsense

If you walk into any household these days, you’ll most likely find a video game system of some sort. But then, you see a ten year old playing a mature rated game. Should you worry, or should you not. Even though some parents usually don’t feel comfortable with their kids playing violent video games, because of the bad effects, they shouldn’t be because it shows no effect in studies, provides a way to get rid of anger, and discipline can stop them from playing it.

First, People will say that with playing violent video games it can lead to violent behavior, but as it turns out, it’s not true! According to “childstats.gov”, teen crimes relating to violence has actually gone down by thousands! This is showing that even with these violent video games, teens are not being affected by them. In the article “Why Most Video Game ‘Aggression’ Studies are Nonsense”, it states that, the article was focusing on studies around 2005-2010 which would leave the data somewhat relevant. As well the studies “Were not focusing on the long term and short term effects” (Schreier, 2015). They were using tests that anyone could answer from their own experiences, or just how they think about events. Testers use the “Short Story test”, which is when someone gives you a prompt to write about and see how they answer. Overall these tests are fairly pointless that can just vary from peoples different out looks on events. As well stated in a CNN article by a man who survived the terrible shootings at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, “I grew up playing video games, mainly first person shooters, but I’ve never felt the urge to actually kill somebody!”(Chris Gradly, 2018). Even when this man has gone through a traumatizing event like a school shooting, he’s doesn’t blame video games for why it
