Video Reflection Essay: Bikers Against Child Abuse Child abuse is a despicable act that unfortunately has become an epidemic. “In 2012 1,640 children died as the result and neglect, and there are concerns not all deaths are reported. Thousands of children abused and neglected every year fall through the cracks” (Concialdi & Read, 2016, p. 52). These deaths only reflect those reported in the United States. Fortunately, there is a group that is helping change these statistics. In 1995 Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) was established to help support and empower children and their families who have suffered abused feel safe again (Bassette, 2013). The goal of the group is to help children not be afraid of their surroundings. B.A.C.A has four set interventions and court appearance protocols that focuses on helping children feel supported and cared for. This support helps empower children deal with their traumatic events heal since the group acts a protective factor for the children and the family that can be accessed whenever their presence is needed. Thus, children can feel safe that the person who abused them will not have come and hurt them again. The video Bikers Against Child Abuse (2013) also mentions an important part of how to empower children and that is to feel safe so they can speak and open up about what happened to them so that the perpetrators can be prosecuted. Thus, by talking about the experiences and increasing the protective factors children can start the process of
