As americans, it is our first amendment right to protest, and a lot of time law enforcement thwart that right, subduing public forms of free expression. The image of the Vietnam War protest: March on Washington April 17, 1965, is an example of peaceful protest. Not that the government is out to get the “hippies” or thwart the american right to free speech, but it is obvious that the protesters are fighting fire with “love” so to speak. The theme of the photo is make love, not war. Members of “The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)”, a group of activists against the vietnam war and the process of drafting, are photographed. The idea of putting the flower in the barrel of the officer's gun is powerful and brave on the part of the man pictured.
