The greatest form of patriotism is to die for one's country. The author of the source is so nationalistic, almost to the point of ultranationalism, that they wish they had more than one life to lose for their country. The author states that they regret only having one life to give. This shows how dedicated they are by wanting to give more after giving it all. To sacrifice your life for a cause is to show that you stand completely behind it. If everyone was so willing to die for a cause that they believe in imagine the things this world could achieve. To truly live and die for what they believe in is to move mountains.

The author of the source shows their overwhelming desire to give up their lives for their country. Thousands of Canadian soldiers did just that at Vimy Ridge in 1917. These brave men paid to unite Canada and to beat all the odds with everything they had to give. They fought to prove that Canadians can make a difference and are a force to be reckoned with by winning a vital military position that Britain and France failed to seize. What a privilege it would have been to lead Canada’s coming of age! Some may claim that when one regrets only being able to give themselves completely once, like the source states, is a form of ultranationalism. Those who argue this must first realise that by giving their lives these brave men and women are paving the way for a brighter future for their country. The author is obviously free to express themselves and to decide whether they wish to give their lives for their country proving that they willingly feel this way. In communist societies however, serving your country is a must especially in times of war, when conscription
