Vincent Van Gogh was a 19th century Dutch painter. He is known as one of the greatest artist that ever lived. He was an artist that had a big impact on modern art. He was born on March 30, 1853 and died on July 29 1890 at 37 years old. He committed suicide, which emphasizes that he had mental problems. He was the oldest of 6 children. He was a quiet reserved person in his younger years and enjoyed spending time in nature and alone. His father was a pastor and he was raised in a village of the southern Netherlands. He was very interested in art when he was young but he took a break from it when he had his heart broken by a woman in London in 1874. He then turned his attention to his christianity and missions. He would also mangle the image he was painting to in order to establish a certain feeling that was incomparable. He used his freedom as a modern artist to develop his creative individualistic style. Vincent Van Gogh was a sad, lonely, depressed man. He also had mental disorders that he thought could not be cured. He once said " I put my heart and soul into my work, and I have lost my mind in the process.". This explains his death as suicide. Vincent Van Gogh interacted with many different artists throughout his lifetime. He used what he learned from some of those artists to create certain art work. He was an amazing artist and surprisingly only sold one of his paintings while he was alive. His career as an artist did not last long, only 10 years. His paintings did not become popular until after he died. One work of art that I found interesting of Van Gogh's is " The Starry Night". He painted this picture while he was willingly admitted into an asylum, so he could focus on his artwork. He actually painted this picture during the day based off of his memory.
