Vincent Willem van Gogh, the most famous impressionist artists. He was born in Groot-Zundert, Holland on March 30, 1853. Not like other famous artists, he born in a normal family, he was “the son of a pastor”. But it took him 20 years to discover what he really wanted to be an artist. During 1860 and 1880, “he had some unhappy romances and had worked unsuccessfully as a clerk in a book store, an art salesman, and a preacher in the Borinage” After he realized he wanted to be an artist, he choosed to stay in Belgium to study art. During that period, he created one of his famous painting called “The Potato Eaters”. And he also learned some Japanese painting skills. After studied in Belgium, he wanted to Paris. It is an impressionism painting and portrait. The background uses very dark color, or shade color. The background is not only black, it has some volume, it has dark blue, dark violet-blue, black and a little bit red-violet. From left to right, the color change from black to dark blue to dark violet to red-violet and black. But we can still see the color around the women is the little bit lighter. It used tone color, which means add some gray in that paint. You can see some texture one the background. The main color on the women is yellow and blue. The women’s face has some different volume. For example, the highlights is forehead and chin. It has some tint color, some light color. But for cheek, Van Gogh used some orang-yellow color to show the different volume. The colors on the dress are lighter than the background. Instead of using lines to show the shape, Van Gogh used the dark color to show different parts of the dress. For example, he used dark blue to show the drapes on the sleeve. But he used some black curve lines to divide the different part of the hair. All the lines you see in this painting is curved
