In Mastricci’s article “Viola Desmond’s Fight for Change is Not History,” Mastracci points out that black civil rights activists tried to end discrimination and segregation over Canadian history. In Canadian history, representation matters, and the way Canadians represented history is troublesome. Not teaching enough about what happened in history has whitewashed the past of slavery and racism against black people.
