In the novel Of mice and men John Steinbeck uses violence through the whole story to relate to not only George and Lennie but also to other characters in the story. John Steinbeck uses violence to illustrate the main theme of the story which is The Predatory Nature of humans. Although violence isn't good at all in real life it can be used in a story to make the story more interesting and sometimes add more emotion. For example in pages 47-49 when Candy's dog is no longer of use they could of let it died peacefully, but the author decided to use violence to add more emotion to the death when Carlson shoots it . Another instance of where the characters use violence is when Lennie has a dead a mouse in his pocket in the first chapter. George
