This situation with Rosanna and Eleo has to do with guns being available and how innocent people may get involved in gangs to protect themselves from gun violence and use guns as a means to inflict violence on others. This is an example of how gun violence is reason why there have been so many losses of life when you have so many guns in our communities.
The other scene in the play where a cop looks for a gang member named, Jimmy, who is known as “The Collector”. Jimmy robbed a convenience store and the cop chased him and lost him. He then pointed his gun at someone he thinks is Jimmy, because he was armed with a gun at the store, but ended up taking another young kid’s life. A character in “Big White Fog”, whose story relates to the play, is a high school basketball star named Abe Jones also known as “Slick”. His story in the play is about his love for basketball and his skills show the potential that he can play on a Pro Basketball team.
Abe has to deal with a situation with police officers at his neighborhood basketball court, who believe that someone like him is carrying drugs, only because of his color. This resulted in him getting beat up by the police. This play deals with police brutality, which could be another fact, which proves this play is a protest drama. Slick’s story as it relates to “Big White Fog”, because in that play it talks about the character, Lester Mason who was denied a scholarship because of the color of his skin, which caused him to think that the world is a big white fog, an analogy where Whites set the rules over African Americans.
Overall, the play depicts police brutality and gun violence which proves a specific point that the play “Freeze Frame”, is effective as a protest drama. Also, the song, “Freeze Frame” was effective in also making this a protest drama by expressing we must stop the madness, which involves the drugs, violence, and
