Vision In the play “Oedipus the King” by Sophocles, the motif vision have developed the theme sight does not always allow true insight. This play have lots to do with the physical vision and the real vision. This have lots to do the character Oedipus and his hermatia which cause him to lose the true vision. Oedipus talks lots about vision and sights in the play but he never have the chance to understand what the true vision or sight is until he realize all of the truth.

Oedipus does not have the “true insight” of things around him and about him. Oedipus went choleric after Tiresias told him that he is the one who caused the plague, and so he said to the old man “It does but not for you,old man. You’ve lost your power,stone-blind,stone-deaf--senses,eyes blind as stone”(422-424). Oedipus became choleric and starting to insult the old man saying since his a blind man he can’t know the truth but Oedipus did not realize that Tiresias have the true sight. After Tiresias got insulted by Oedipus , he said “You mock my blindness? Let me tell you this. You with your precious eyes, you’re blind to the corruption of your life” (469-471). According to Tiresias, Oedipus were the one who’s blind of things happening around him, like his wife is actually his mother. “ Seeing nothing, children, knowing nothing, I became your father, I fathered you in the soil that gave me life”(1625-1627). Oedipus now noticed that he is the one who did not see anything happening
