In 1431 Vlad the Impaler was born in the land of Wallachia, next to Transylvania. Wallachia is where Vlad’s father came from. Vlad’s mother’s name has been lost in history. Vlad’s father came from a family of princes from Wallachia. Vlad Dracula’s father had received the honor of having to travel 700 miles. The honor was that he had been chosen to be one of the twenty-four trusted knights of Emperor Sigismund. Vlad’s father, along with the twenty-three other knights, kneeled down before Emperor Sigismund and became part of the Order of the Dragon. Each knight received a green and a black cape along with a medallion that had a dragon engraved on it. The emperor had promised to eventually make Vlad’s father Prince of Wallachia.
