Vladimir Lenin was a Russian communist revolutionary who founded the organization, Communist International. He is the primary source of Leninism, his ways of thinking combined with Karl Marx's works led his successors to create Marxism-Leninism. His leadership led to the greatest political event of the 20th century, the Bolshevik Revolution. Lenin gained power and used it to force his new ideology onto the citizens. While in power, he would initiate the killing of anyone who tried to take away his system, killing up to 50,000 Russians. Lenin had an immense impact on the Russian people because of his philosophy. Much like Marxism, he wanted all people to be equal and led a revolution to try and make the Russian society ideal (Resis, Albert).

The philosophy of Leninism is that a vanguard party must be formed that will take over and allow the working class to have political power. Lenin thought that Capitalism was unfair to the people, and their only chance to make their country great was by starting a socialist revolution. Marx believed that the working class was to rise up and take the power from the government. While in power, the proletariats were to lead the other working classes, such as peasants, to forming a socialist nation. In Russia at the time the proletariat population was small, with 80% of the population being peasants. Because of the large population of peasants, Lenin concluded that both the proletariats and peasants needed power. Lenin looked at the state of Russia and used that to mold Marxism into the political theory that would most greatly benefit Russia. Leninism's goal was to destroy all aristocracies and titles in the Russian society.
