On my first day of high school, I received my freshman class schedule. On top of the class schedule, there was a charming quote - which read, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” Still to this very day, I think about that quote. I honestly did not fully understand the impact of the quote until I became an adult. I often think about how my life could have been different if I would have been more focused on my academic studies in high school and often times wish I could relive the moment.

In preparation to venture into the nursing field, I’ve recently conducted training to become a hospice volunteer with the Hospice of Chesapeake. In conclusion, I have entered a stage in my life where I realize I do not have to dwell on things I could have done better in the past, but use the past as motivation to work harder today and beyond. I started the first day of the rest of my life when I enrolled in Stratford with making the decision to do my very best academically, and excelling 11 months later. I made a commitment to myself that I would strive for excellence and fulfilling my dream of becoming a nurse. I understand being a nursing student is challenging and will require commitment and determination but I feel that all of my past educational and personal experiences have prepared me for this day.
