The excerpt we read from W.E.B. Du Bois Reflection was very interesting. The historical references really stuck out to me, making the excerpt more interesting. They way the author wrote the excerpt was very significant to me as well. As I read the chapter, I could feel and see the passion and relation felt in the words he chose. Each song he chose the describe takes you to different struggles in life and death, sorrow and pain, struggle to find freedom. Du Bois, explains that these songs are how slaves spoke to the world. The songs he mention show trouble and exile, strife and hiding and beg for rest. As the author, breaks down these songs you can really feel what the songs are trying to say. W. E. B.
