America is truly a place that is ajar to perception. This is especially the case with Walt Whitman, Angela De Hoyas, and Langston Hughes. Walt Whitman was an American poet from New York. He conventionally discussed controversial topics.Angela De Hoyas was a Mexican poet indigenous to Coahuila. She routinely discussed her anger of unjust circumstances. Langston Hughes was an American poet from Joplin, Missouri. He frequently pened the frustration he has experienced throughout his life. Walt Whitman, Angela De Hoyas, and Langston Hughes are all well spoken poets whose work can be compared and contrasted in many ways. Whitman, De Hoyas, and Hughes’s poems can all be compared in some way. First and foremost, all of the poems speak of the oppressed. While Whitman’s poem does not directly state its intent, the message is clear through his omission of jobs more recognized by the public eye. In lines 10-12 of De Hoyas’s poem, it states, “my Native Amerindian race that I can’t seem to find in your poems”. This is implying that her ethnic group is often left out. Whitman’s poem specifically mentions the laborers who receive miniscule fanfare. In conclusion, Whitman, De Hoyas, and Hughes’s poems compare and contrast in quite a few ways. All of the poems.
