In Walt Whitman’s poem “When I Heard The Learn’d Astronomer” he writes that we should realize how beautiful nature can be. With the use of symbols, alliteration, and hyperbole,it will help the readers show the aspect of nature.
Symbolism was used in the beginning of the poem, Whitman uses anaphora in first half (lines 1-4) of the poem with the word “when” and that shows Whitman shows boredom with all the work he is receiving that he becomes sick and tired. Whitman also uses assonance in line 1 “Heard the learn’d”.
In line 8 he uses alliteration “mystical moist” and “time to time” with that he is giving you the image of low fog and sometimes looking up at the silent night sky and into the stars. Also uses imagery with “In the mystical moist night-air”
