The story of Walter mitty begins in his daily mundane life of a photograph developer for life magazine. Walter is pushed around and often goes daydreams of the world around him. His life is changed when he finds out the magazine company he works for is going to move from being on paper to online only. Walter is tasked with developing the final cover for the magazine, but when the negative for the picture they were going to use goes missing he is forced to go on an impromptu heroes’ journey. The start of his journey begins with trying to find the photographer who originally took the picture.
The start of the hero’s journey in the life of Walter mitty is signified by a call to adventure. This call comes when Walter is forced to find the missing negative, Walter has to go to Greenland to try and find the original photographer. After leaving crossing the threshold into the unknown it marks the beginning of his heroes’ journey. By crossing his threshold, it shows Walters commitment to finding the negative and starting his new journey.
The reason the filmmaker chose to structure the story this way is because it allows for a reasonable beginning to his journey. By creating a believable beginning to Walters journey it allows the audience to connect with the story and not just the idea of it happening but the actual actions

The reason the director chose for the story to go the way it did was because it allows the reader to connect more personally with the story. Almost everyone at some point in time was like Walter, just living their life day by day with no excitement. By allowing the viewer to connect on a personal level it allows for a greater suspension of belief, which leads to an overall greater viewing.
